Benson: little known artists’ spots

There’s greatness in our midst! Benson is where artist Bernard Fiero, a painter who works in oils, watercolors and acrylics, chooses to live. That puts him in a special club with humorist Baxter Black, who also makes Benson his home.

Fiero recently received an Award of Excellence in the Members Juried Exhibition from the Tubac Center of the Arts. The local paper San Pedro Valley News-Sun just did a nice profile on Fiero.

Just outside of Benson is Gallery of Dreams (at 245 E. Patton, St. David), where other artists are featured. The gallery displays and sells works that range in price from $10 to $10,000.

Yet another little known sanctuary for the arts is the Holy Trinity Monastery. The San Pedro Valley Center for the Arts is housed at the monastery. They hold workshops and the Gallery Trinitas has works of local and non-local artists.

Who knew Benson was so full of culture?! Stop in the Benson Visitor Center at 249 E. 4th St. in Benson and see what’s in store for your inner artist. Maybe you’ll be inspired to paint some of the San Pedro Valley’s gorgeous landscapes.
